Thanks to "The Department of English and Communication" from the Polytechnic University of Hong Kong for their quick and exceptional arrangement for a lecture hall to unveil Lafuente's works in South China among all his relevant ones in Shanghai at the golden ages of the city. The masterclass focused not only on Lafuente's projects but also on the research journey of Dr. Leonardo-Perez about Old Hong Kong and the research process over the last 15 years between Spain and China archives. This adventurous life journey captured the attention of all students and got them ready to understand the European architectural styles of the XIX century and the reasons why these buildings are still standing in China.
Shanghai and Hong Kong were the "international melting pots" of the region at the most crucial period of the XX century when Europe was surpassed and absorbed by fatal events. This lecture was the first announcement of the relevant 100th anniversary of the "Shanghai Little Alhambra" (1924-2024) still standing in the city.
The lecture content explaining his relationship with the current Peninsula Hotels (former The Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels Ltd), his constant trips from Shanghai to Hong Kong and Manila at the beginning of the 1920's, and his incredible achievements over a "different world" fixed them at their chairs and class was extended over an extra and fabulous time with several queries.
Thanks to the gratefulness of Professor Renia Lopez and her assistant Yuying Xiangand also the interest from Prof. Pan Lu from Dept. of Chinese History and Culture which is a Shanghainese from Hongkou district.
