Thanks to Instituto Cervantes de Manila for their great organization and coordination of the first-ever lecture about the beginning of the professional practice of the Spanish "architect born in Manila", Abelardo Lafuente. Thanks to the College of Architecture from the University of Santo Tomas and the Dean of Architecture (who partners with Cervantes at their relevant events) Rodolfo Ventura. The conference was hosted at the main lecture hall of the most important Faculty of Architecture of the city (part of the oldest University of Asia-founded 1611) becoming a very special event for the over 100 students and several professors who joined as Vinson Pacheco, Manolo Noche, Lorelei de Viana, Marlon Carino, Marlon James, it was a honor. A video about the event HERE.

The lecture content was an incredible surprise for all and warmly welcomed (even more for them being part of the institution) as Abelardo Lafuente was one of their students back in the XIX century. To realize that he practiced in Manila during his 15 years (1898-1913) and that he exported to Manila and Shanghai the architectural #neoArab style that both countries shared in their most international cities plus "knowing about the father's key figure" was incredible. Unfortunately, all buildings are gone currently but studying his legacy will be mandatory for them in the future.
Dr. Leonardo-Perez shared his knowledge about the Old Manila and the research process over the last 15 years between Spain and Philippines archives.
Special thanks to Javier GALVÁN GUIJO and UST as we signed the "University's Honor Book" after visiting the historical campus which is Philippines Heritage.
