Last September 10, 2024 the Government of Spain made its second official visit to China with its president at the head. Among all the major events he held, he met with the Chinese President and the Prime Minister, among other authorities.
His long and busy schedule included numerous political, business, and ties-building activities between the two countries, and there was also a moment for culture. The Spanish Prime Minister inaugurated the new Instituto Cervantes center at 208 Anfu Road in the Xuhui district of Shanghai (which was previously the Miguel de Cervantes Library since 2007).
During the new Cervantes Institute Shanghai official Opening, a new leaflet with a Map and info on Abelardo Lafuente Architectural Legacy in Shanghai was presented to the president for his knowledge and surprise. This research project has prepared the content of this leaflet and features the designed map and illustrations that Polifactoryhttps://polifactory.com/ made when the first edition of this map was printed back in 2012.
The opportunity was taken to show the map and information, as well as to give away two scale models of the "Shanghai's Little Alhambra" by Abelardo Lafuente in the year of the centenary of its construction (1924-2024). In this way, they have been able to take with them to Spain both scale reproductions.
One of the models will remain in the "Moncloa Palace" and the other at the headquarters of the "Cervantes Institute" in Madrid. It is not yet known whether either of them will be visible to the general public, but this fact certainly is a milestone in the dissemination of this part of the history of Spanish Architecture in Asia, which has been the main focus of this page for fourteen years, since it was presented for the first time at the 2010 Universal Expo in Shanghai by Alvaro Leonardo during the "Cervantes Institute Week" in such an incomparable international cultural event.
