Universidad Complutense de Madrid publishes a Lafuente Article

Updated: Dec 31, 2025

In December 2025, a new article about Abelardo Lafuente was published by Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

The publication of this book arose as a commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Spain and the People's Republic of China.

This is the fifth relevant article published in the academic environment about this unique research. In this case is part of a book published by Guillermo Escolar Editor and directed by Prof. Consuelo Marco Martinez and Prof. Huiling Luo. The name is "RELACIONES ENTRE CHINA Y ESPANA: Genesis, desarrollo y perspectivas"

It is very successful to be part of an academic publication together with so many Chinese researchers as Jian Liu and Xiaokun Gen from BFSU Beijing, Jingsheng Lu from SISU Shanghai , Hao Chen from Fudan University, Lili Shi from Madrid Instituto Confucio's and other Spanish author as Fernando Prieto from INTA (Instituto Nacional de Técnica Aeroespacial).

Each author offers a different perspective. The first two discuss educational relations between universities in both countries, followed by the teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE) in China. The equally interesting topic of learning Chinese as a language inherited from Spain is also addressed, as well as the current publication of novels by Spanish women writers in China. All of this is interwoven with the history of the Spanish architectural style (neo-mudejar or neo-arab) still present in China and the evolution of architectural restoration in the country. The book concludes with a geopolitical reflection on the future. It is therefore a very comprehensive book, masterfully managed, organized, and translated with the support of the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) through Professor Huiling Luo, a leading academic institution in Spain, and Professor Consuelo Marco, Director of the East Asian Studies Department.

In this case, the article "The influence of the XIX century Spanish neo-mudejar on the architecture of the XX century colonial Shanghai" presents in 23 pages (101 to 124) some new contribution to PhD dissertation (2019) and exposes the exponential growth of the architectural rehabilitation of buildings carried out by foreigners in China in the 20th century, which is growing evidently through the "Annual Lists of Protected Buildings" published by the Chinese government with the support of "Chinnese Cultural Relics Society" and the "Chinese Architectural Society".

The book was mentioned at Mundo Global and the UCM media channel along December 2025 as it can be found already in your book stores from December, 9, 2025.
