The China Press Newspaper on October 22, 1931 published this article by journalists Herb Lewis (a China Press Real Estate Editor) following a Lafuente's lecture in Shanghai about the "Perils of Bad Building". The architect asks that good material be used in new buildings.
A warning note concerning the architectural future of the city of Shanghai was struck yesterday by Mr. A. Lafuente, designer of the Astor Hotel and Majestic Hotel ballrooms, who returned to China this week after an absence of four years in California.
One of the oldest and best known architects in the city, Mr.Lafuente's name has been associated in former years with some of the best buildings in Shanghai. Now he has returned here to practice his profession in this city. His four-year absence has given him the advantage of a clear insight on the building problem here.
