On Monday, October 19, 1931, The China Press Newspaper published at their front page a portrait photo of Lafuente with the following title: "Architect Back".
The second line behind his photo said: " A. Lafuente, architect who designed ballrooms of two of Shanghai's leading hotels, is back in Shanghai after a stay of four years in the United States.
"SHANGHAI RECALLS FAMOUS DESIGNER NOTED BUILDINGS".
Lafuente returns on "Shinyo Maru" from the United States.
And at some point in the long article, it says:
"WON MANILA PRIZE"
It was while he was in Shanghai that he won first prize for the design and plans for the Great Legislative Building in Manila, the G$1,500,000 structure that houses the insular senate and congress.
Born in Madrid some sixty years ago, he was educated in universities in Spain and Germany, coming to the Orient some 15 years ago, residing both in Manila and Shanghai at various times.
