An ad in The Los Angeles Times on March 10,1929 announced the 12-Room Moorish Mansion--The Showplace of Bel Air" in "one of the choicest acre estates in beautiful Bel Air. California´s most exclusive and fashionable Residential Section. A four-minute walk to the new U.C.L.A. buildings." A photograph shows the elevation of the elaborate arcaded loggia which still graces the corner at Sunset Boulevard and Stone Canyon Road. This gorgeous and palatial residence,a dream of
old Spain, built with lavish expenditure was to have been the permanent home of the present owner, who now must return to China for an indefinite sojourn "It is likely that this 'sojourner' was the original owner. Although the name has been lost unsubstantiated rumors suggest that construction of the home was originally commissioned by the King of Spain. However, original building permits are missing, obscuring the name of the original owner as well as the date of construction and the architect. Development patterns of the area and construction permits for neighboring properties imply that the house was built between 1922 and 1928.
